Bad to the Bow is a community youth fiddle group from the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia. The group is part of The Coast String Fiddlers Association, a non-profit organization that promotes the education and performance of traditional fiddle music.

The group is made up of 26 school-aged fiddlers with accompaniment by parents and community volunteers on bass, cello, piano, guitar, penny whistle and percussion. The group rehearses together once a week, and the fiddlers are also each enrolled in weekly private lessons.

The group is under musical direction of Chelsea Sleep and has received additional instruction from musical guests from all over the world including Iain Fraser, Daniel Lapp, Pierre Schryer, Adrian Dolan, Calvin Cairns, Mairi Rankin, Jaron Freeman-Fox, Mark Sullivan and Kalissa Hernandez.

Bad to the Bow keeps up a large repertoire of fiddle tunes from nearly every corner of the world including Canadian and American Old-tyme, Bluegrass, Cape Breton, Irish, Scottish, French Canadian, Metis, Klezmer, Breton, Scandinavian, contemporary fiddle music including tunes written by Canadian composer Oliver Schroer, and tunes composed by the group itself.

The group has performed alongside professional musicians including Alasdair Fraser & Natalie Haas, Fred & Deirdre Morrison, Celso Machado, Daniel Lapp, Oliver Swain’s Big Machine, The Wheat and the Barley, Ivonne Hernandez & Jeremy Walsh and The Sabir Sisters to name a few.

Bad to the Bow participates annually in the Vancouver Celtic Festival and the Pacific National Exhibition, as well as dozens of other local events and charity fundraisers such as the Cancer Relay for Life and the Elves Club Telethon. They also perform numerous free concerts at local assisted-living homes, public libraries, shopping centres and public parks.

In 2010 the group was honoured to perform as part of the Olympic Torch Relay celebrations when torch was run through Gibsons. In the summer of 2011, the group traveled to Washington State, USA, to perform as headliners for the Skagit Valley Highland Games. Bad to the Bow released their debut CD The Joy of It in May 2012.
